A child who doesn’t eat nutritious food is more likely to fail at school, fall sick, and struggle to find work as an adult. In the last month, Global Citizens have sent a powerful message to Zambia, Rwanda, and South Africa: Every child has the right to live, learn, and play — free from hunger and malnutrition. But now, we need Mozambique on board, too.

If you meet a young child in Mozambique, there is almost a 50-50 chance he or she will be suffering from chronic malnutrition — their growth stunted due to lack of nutritious food. Yet currently, the government of Mozambique only spends $2.71 per child per year on nutrition.

With the East and Southern Africa Civil Society Nutrition Network, we are calling on President Nyusi of Mozambique to build a bright future for his country’s children. An extra $10 per child per year — as recommended by the World Bank — could make all the difference!
